Bruce worked with current Everton striker Johnson at St Andrews before allowing him to move to Crystal Palace five years ago - a decision he still regrets - and he can see the same attributes in Jerome, who initially took time to settle after his £3million move from Cardiff last summer.
Jerome scored twice in the 2-1 win at Derby County at the weekend, and Bruce said: "Cameron has got all the raw materials. He reminds me of a young Andrew Johnson in terms of his pace and his sheer power.
"In hindsight I let 'AJ' go too quick as a 21-year-old. I won't make the same mistake with Cameron. You've got to give people time to mature and get better."
He added: "Cameron has all the raw ingredients. He has blistering pace. He needs to improve on his finishing and his game awareness but he is getting there.
"He will be a good asset to the club. He has got the great thing we all look for, frightening pace."
